Akademik IT Streamlines School Admissions in Uganda
Kasawo Secondary School, a government-aided institution in Mukono District, has launched a new digital admission system, “Kasawo Ku lutiimbe,” to simplify the enrollment process for parents and students in 2025. Developed by Akademik IT, this platform aims to make admissions faster and more accessible, aligning with Uganda’s push for digital education solutions.
A Game-Changer for Parents
The “Kasawo Ku lutiimbe” system, meaning “Kasawo on the Web” in Luganda, allows parents to apply for their children’s admission online, reducing paperwork and wait times. Hajji Saleh Mukasa Iga, headteacher of Kasawo Secondary School, stated, “This system will ease the burden on parents, making enrollment smoother and more efficient.”
Key features of the digital admission system include:
- Online Application: Submit forms via Kasawo’s website or app, accessible anytime.
- Real-Time Updates: Track application status and receive notifications.
- User-Friendly Design: Simplified interface for parents, even those with limited digital skills.
This initiative builds on Kasawo’s existing digital infrastructure, including its learning management system, which supports online classes and fee payments.
Akademik IT’s Role
Akademik IT, a Ugandan school management software provider since 2005, powers the system. CEO Stephen Okhutu highlighted its credentials: “Our ISO 9001:2015-certified platform offers over 20 features, from admissions to report cards, tailored for Ugandan schools.” The company’s experience supports Kasawo’s goal of modernizing administrative processes.
Why It Matters
Founded in 1927, Kasawo Secondary School is a leading science institution in Uganda, known for its state-of-the-art facilities like a computer lab with over 250 devices. The new system aligns with the Ministry of Education and Sports’ Education Digital Agenda (2021–2025), which emphasizes ICT integration to improve access and efficiency.
However, challenges remain. Rural parents in Mukono may face internet access issues, though Akademik IT plans to offer offline support and training to bridge this gap.
